Man’s curiosity has been his greatest gift of creation. To realize this desire of his, he established science. I will like to define science as the systematic study of nature and all things around. It is systematic because in our curiosity, we want accurate knowledge with little or no room for error. Applying knowledge gathered from such scientific explorations in various dimensions to better human life is known as technology.
Technology is not only about gadgets and machines; it can come in as many surprising dimensions as much as it will surprise the majority of us if I were to term doctors as medical technologists. Nonetheless, the most pronounced effect of technology on our life are such gadgets and machine that have today so much made life easier for us; the mobile phone, the internet and so on.
Have we ever come to wonder how much we depend on technology, have we ever wonder how much we depend on the mobile phone – that little phone we carry around, do we ever wonder?!
Do we ever wonder how so simple the mobile phone has made life easy for us? If you were to forget a file that is crucial for your early morning presentation, all you need do is call home. The beauty of being able to communicate miles without need for physical connection.
Without the printing machine, mass book production will be virtually impossible which means that many of us may not get access to good books, ensuring that many of us are ignoramus. Never will I have passed my examinations without good books.
You are only able to access this piece which may or may not affect your life but will definitely affect your thinking with the internet. With the internet comes all sort of information: Information you knew was out there, information you could only imagine would be out there, and information you could assume can never be out there.
Transportation has taken a new dimension, from horses to bicycle, trains to cars. With airplanes, one can travel across The Atlantic in hours, an advent that could take months in the past. Without the bus, you would have to trek approximately a thousand kilometers a day.
The television continues to affect our life with its magic. It informs me of all that is going on the world, ensuring that the most of us with little time are not blatant ignoramus.
Technology, like any other magic, is not without its cracks. It helps the police tighten security but also promise greater autonomy to criminals who can embrace and abuse it. Examination bodies today are increasingly blaming the television as a major cause of students’ mass failure.
But grace of technology far outweighs its mess. Consider how much technology has saved lives than endanger like quickly thwarted armed robbery attempts. How much books have helped boost academic performance than retard it.
Try sometimes to imagine your world without technology. Try to imagine trekking miles or schooling without books. It makes you wonder what a world without technology would be. The truth is technology did not just change our world; it shaped it into what it is today.
Consider how far man has come with science and technology, Technology has shown us the wonders we can do with our brain, that the brain itself is magic. Every time you enter a plane and fly without wings, or anytime you talk over the phone and communicate without seeing. It should give you the idea that you can go anywhere, be anything. That is the greatest effect technology shall ever have on you.
